Snyder Cut review: Technical Bravura and Visual Splendour

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is finally here. After 4 years of waiting, fans are rejoiced to watch the 4 hour marathon project. Yes it is a long runtime for any audience, but then how many director gets their name in the title of a movie ? Everything about this movie “Snyder Cut”, makes it an epic one.

Based on Snyder’s original work, with some added scenes and millions worth of visual effects it was impossible for a studio to release it on theatres. If you feel that, nothing was wrong with 2017’s Justice League completed by Joss Whedon, then you’ll be bored to death.

But if you think it was not adequate and was not giving the DC vibe then you’re in for a treat. The movie develops on a slower pace and it captures the real visions of Snyder in detail, which makes “Joss-tice League Utterly irrelevant and disappointing.

Is Zack Snyder’s Justice League worth its hype?

The story is divided in parts for an easy understanding. Superman (Henry Cavill) is dead and Batman (Ben Affleck) is feeling terrible. So decides to put together a team of people with special skills. His first recruit is Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). They both go about getting Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller) and The Cyborg (Ray Fisher) to join.

Meanwhile Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds) a hammer headed, silver armoured alien invades our planet. He is searching for the three Mother Boxes so that he can end this world.

Now the backstory goes an ancient, wicked being, Darkseid (Ray Porter), who has been destroying worlds since the beginning of time – came to earth with the same intensions 5000 years ago. He was defeated by the Olympian gods, Atlanteans, Amazons, humans and a Green Lantern united.

The Atlanteans, Amazons and humans separate the three boxes and hides them. Now that World has lost its greatest defender Darkseid sends Steppenwolf to fulfil his unachieved dream.

We also see the character development of Aquaman, The Flash, Cyborg rather than just the action. Be it Flash’s accident with the snack truck and flying frankfurters, Cyborg’s Daddy issues or Aquaman’s conversation with Vulko, it gives a backdrop to the storyline. And what’s with Wonder Woman and Batman? The accidental finger brushing or Batman’s intense looks hints towards a mild sexual tension between them.

The movie seems to be influenced by many, like Steppenwolf makes us remind Dormammu, Cyborg looks like a Character from The Transformer, and his first try to fly is a lot like Ironman, The Lord of Rings type multiple endings. Whatever Snyder envisioned is truly brilliant.

The post Covid19 era setup with empty streets and open countryside throbbing of quarantines and lockdown gives it a realistic vibe.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is the cinematic version of an Epic Heroic Tragedy which takes its viewers through a journey. A topsy turvy of emotions makes the four hours a short period. It has an oddly downbeat ending featuring dark dreams and visions.

However, Allison Crowe’s stirring rendition Len Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ over the end credits, somewhat succeeds in quelling that disquiet.
